For the nth time, I wish I could put into words the thoughts burning in my mind. I feel that more than ever, I have expressed my thoughts very badly. I do not know how you can take interest in reading all these muddled thoughts. Sometimes I feel I am a mere speck of dust blown by the not so gentle wind…..arlene

After A While

After a while you learn the subtle difference
between holding a hand and chaining a soul,
And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning and
company doesn't mean security
And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts
and presents aren't promises
And you begin to accept your defeats with your
head up and your eyes open, with the grace of an adult
and not the grief of a child.
And you learn to build all your roads on today
because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans.
After a while, you learn that even sunshine
burns if you get too much.
So you plant your own garden and decorate your own soul
instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure....
That you really are strong,
And you really have worth.

Once I answered YES to someone or to something
and from that hour I was certain that
Existence is meaningful and that therefore,
My life, in self-surrender has a goal.

-Dag Hammerskjold-
*****
Your joy is your sorrow unmasked,
the deeper the sorrow carves into your being,
The more joy you can contain.
- Kahlil Gibran-

*****
Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the approximate, the not-quite, the not-yet, the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish, in lonely frustration for the life you deserved, but have never been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle.

The world you desired can be won. It exists, it is real, it is possible, it is yours.

-Ayn Rand-

*****
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

-Mark Twain-

*****
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

-Leo Buscaglia

This is the time. This is the place. This is the vastness. Right here is paradise. Always! Always! - Byron Katie ------------------------ May the spirit of Christmas bring you peace, The gladness of Christmas give you hope, The warmth of Christmas grant you love. ------------------------- Christmas is forever, not for just one day, for loving, sharing, giving, are not to put away like bells and lights and tinsel, in some box upon a shelf. The good you do for others is good you do yourself... ~Norman Wesley Brooks, "Let Every Day Be Christmas," 1976 -------------------- ♫ Have yourself a merry little Christmas♫ ♪ --------------------- How I do love the earth. I feel it thrill under my feet. I feel somehow as if it were conscious of my love, as if something passed into my dancing blood from it.- -------------------- James Russell Lowell ------------- To the wisest man, wide as is his vision. Nature remains of quite infinite depth, of quite infinite expansion and all experience thereof limits itself to some few computed centuries and measured square miles. - Thomas Carlyle ----------------------------- The Amen! of Nature is always a flower.- Oliver Wendall Holmes ------------------------------- "It is often during the worst of times that we see the best of humanity–awakening within the most ordinary of us that which is most sublime. I do not believe that it is circumstance that produces such greatness any more than it is the canvas that makes the artist. Adversity merely presents the surface on which we render our souls’ most exacting likeness. It is in the darkest skies that stars are best seen. " — Richard Paul Evans (The Letter)
